Cuba Offline Guide

Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 3, 2026

This is a one-person project. The privacy story is short on purpose.

What this app collects about you

Almost nothing. The Cuba Offline Guide is built around the constraint that you'll have no internet in Cuba, so it doesn't depend on servers, accounts, or analytics. Specifically:

What data stays on your device

The app saves a few preferences locally on your phone so it remembers them between sessions:

This data never leaves your phone.

Location

The app uses your GPS only when you tap the locate-me button on the map. The location is shown on the map and used to calculate distance to nearby places. It is not stored, transmitted, or shared with anyone. When you close the app or switch tabs, location tracking stops.

You can deny location access — the app works the same way, you just won't see your blue dot on the map.

Network requests

The app is offline-first, but a few features reach out to the internet when a connection is available:

The app does not send your location, identity, or any personal data with these requests.

"Suggest a place" / "Report a correction" buttons

If you tap these in the Tips tab, your phone's email app opens with a pre-filled message addressed to the curator. The body of the email includes a small diagnostic block (app version, current language, screen size, device user-agent string) so bug reports are easier to triage. Nothing is sent until you tap your email app's send button — you can review, edit, or delete the diagnostic block before sending. The email goes only to the curator's Gmail address.

Children

The app is suitable for all ages. Because it doesn't collect personal information, it complies with COPPA without any special handling.

Third-party services

The app loads no other third-party code or content.

Changes to this policy

If anything substantial changes, this document gets updated and the "Last updated" date at the top changes. There is no notification system to alert users — please re-read this if you're returning to the app after a long break.
